Finish the race.
The Red Zone
In reflecting on goals I’ve set but not achieved, I realized that the missed opportunities often stemmed from internal negotiations—wavering between my original plan and enticing new distractions. Sometimes it was “shiny object syndrome,” where the thrill of something fresh pulled me off course; other times, it was an unforeseen challenge that disrupted my progress.
As an avid sports fan, particularly of Ohio State football and the fan-owned Green Bay Packers, I see countless parallels between sports, business, and the lessons we face in life. In both individual and team sports, stats and data tell stories, guiding strategies and revealing what it takes to win.
On a crisp fall day, I found myself strolling with my dog, Poppy, taking in the beauty of the season as I thought about my goals for 2025. Planning ahead is impactful—I often remind myself to “stay ready, so I don’t have to get ready.” But this mindset also has a flip side. Constantly looking ahead can create false anxiety, pulling us away from the present and blinding us to the opportunities we need to tackle now. Achieving our goals often requires finishing today’s tasks with focus, so that tomorrow’s opportunities arise naturally.
As I paused on a bench that day, I thought about football and how successful teams make the most of every chance to win, pushing through each game toward their ultimate goal: a championship that will define their legacy. This time of year, with just a few months left, feels like the Red Zone—a pivotal moment, much like the final 20 yards in football.
If you’re not familiar, the “Red Zone” in football refers to the area between the 20-yard line and the goal line. Here, the stakes are high, and a team’s ability to convert opportunities into touchdowns is crucial. The great teams perform under pressure in the Red Zone, staying disciplined and seizing the moment to score. In 2020, for instance, Alabama’s and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ exceptional Red Zone efficiency propelled them to championship victories. Their ability to convert under pressure was the difference between just being good and being the best. As much as I hate to admit it, this is likely why Nick Saban is arguably the greatest college football coach of all time, and Tom Brady is arguably the best NFL player ever—they consistently capitalized on every opportunity, no matter the circumstances.
Stay The Course
The last mile is the least crowded.
This has been my motto in recent weeks with all my consulting clients. Whether they’re leveraging my services to secure 0% capital for business growth and investments, strategically purchasing investment properties, evaluating and optimizing crypto portfolios, or integrating algorithm trading bots to create additional income streams—I encourage them to stay focused and persistent in pursuit of their goals.
As the seasons shift, it’s tempting to lose focus and start “negotiating” with yourself, allowing priorities to drift toward what feels more exciting or easier. It’s a bit like when Head Coach, Pete Carroll chose to throw the ball in the Red Zone, on the opponent’s 1-yard line, instead of running it with arguably the best running back in the NFL that season, ultimately costing his team the Super Bowl. Instead of being celebrated as a champion, he’s often remembered for not seizing the opportunity in front of him, losing focus at the most critical moment.
But in these final months of the year, it’s crucial to keep your eyes on the goals you set in 2024. The holiday season naturally creates temptations, with its excesses in food, over budget spending, and social pressure, can derail both health and financial goals. Many people gain weight, overspend, or struggle under the stress of year-end pressures.
It’s easy to bend under these pressures, but bending doesn’t mean breaking. In football and essentially all team sports, they say, “Defenses win championships.” The best teams don’t break when backed up to their own goal line. They bend, maybe allowing a field goal instead of a touchdown, or better yet even creating a turnover under the pressure. Great defenses don’t let their opponents cross the goal line.
So, as we enter this Red Zone of the year, resist the temptations that don’t serve you, refocus on your current goals, and push yourself to finish strong. Stay ready for the opportunities right in front of you—because as champions know, true success lies in staying grounded in the moment and converting on every opportunity.

Winners vs Losers
“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.” — 1 Corinthians 9:24-25 (NIV)
This verse highlights the dedication and discipline needed to stay focused in the "Red Zone" of our lives. Just like an athlete who trains and pushes through challenges to reach the goal line, we’re called to resist temptations that pull us off course and pursue our goals with unwavering focus. The work we put in—whether overcoming obstacles, staying disciplined, or facing down distractions—is not just for temporary victories but for a lasting legacy.
This pursuit of excellence, both in the Red Zone and in life, is about finishing strong, with intention and purpose to win, every time.

Stay blessed
